The Queens Long Island Medical Group, (QLIMG) is pleased to announce the appointment of Paul Enker, Sc., M.D, F.R.C.S (C), F.A.A.O.S as the new Chief of Orthopedics and Director of the Total Joint Replacement Program.
Dr. Enker is currently working at the QLIMG New Hyde Park Medical Office located at 2035 Lakeville Road, New Hyde Park, NY. Starting February he will be taking on hours at the QLIMG Hicksville Medical Office located at 350 South Broadway
Hicksville, NY 11801. Dr. Enker has been with the Medical Group for more than a decade and has worked in the field of Orthopedics for over twenty-five years. The appointment of Chief and Director recognizes Dr. Enker’s expertise in the field of Orthopedic Medicine and his steadfast commitment to his patients.
While he is elated to be at the fore front of the Orthopedics Department, he recognizes that there are many challenges that lay ahead. Foremost on his agenda is to enhance the over-all delivery of Orthopedic Care, “I plan to implement system-wide programs of excellence in subspecialty areas of orthopedics and dramatically improve orthopedic availability for acute and sub acute care,” said Dr. Enker.
Another priority for Dr. Enker will be to implement the Total Joint Replacement Program, which includes primary and revision joint replacement using modern techniques, including minimal incision surgery and partial knee replacement. The program also accommodates patients with prior surgeries who had suboptimal outcomes. This is a unique approach as it requires addressing patients that have had a surgical procedure elsewhere and may need corrective care. Through this new program QLIMG can evaluate and treat these patients as well.
Dr. Enker goes on to describe the program as “the state-of-the-art assessment and management of people with arthritic disorders of the hip and knee. The program encompasses medical and surgical management which will ensure an efficient system for patients.” Dr. Enker added that in a few weeks a new approach to total hip replacement will be implemented, one that allows for a faster recovery time than previous methods. Traditionally hip replacement can take months of recovery, with this new approach a patient can once again be active in only a matter of weeks.
Additionally, Dr Enker anticipates implementing a system-wide program for sports medicine, spinal disorders, foot and ankle disorders, pediatric conditions, and hand and upper extremity conditions”. Ultimately, Dr. Enker will expand the orthopedic staff to dramatically improve the availability for patients with acute, sub acute musculoskeletal conditions. That means there can be greater access to treating additional orthopedic patients through these programs.
Originally hailing from Montreal, Quebec, Canada, Dr. Enker received his Bachelor of Science from McGill University in Canada. He then received his M.D. at the University of Ottawa in Ontario, Canada. Dr. Enker performed his internship, first year residency and Orthopedic Surgery Residency at McGill University and then went on to complete fellowships in Orthopedic Surgery and Hand Surgery at Sunnybrook Medical Center/University of Toronto and at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania respectively.
